Laoyou rice noodle is a century-old dish with local flavor. In ancient times, an elderly man visited Zhouji Teahouse every day to have some tea. One day, his daily routine got disrupted because he had a cold. The boss of the teahouse thus treated him with a bowl of hot noodles which uses fried garlic, lobster sauce, chilli, pepper, sour bamboo shoots and beef as seasonings. The old friend ("Laoyou" in Chinese) of the boss sweated and recovered after eating the noodle. The story gave the local dish its name as Laoyou noodle. Gradually, the dish developed into Laoyou rice noodle, Laoyou fried rice noodle, and others with special flavor.
